Victim Carl Goree

23. Carl Goree, BOP #22002-001
Prisoner Goree on or about Nov. 13, 03 was bitten by what appeared to be a poisonous spider. Mr. Goree is a BOP prisoner incarcerated at FCI Yazoo in Yazoo, Mississippi. The brown recluse spider is a poisonous spider and prevalent in Mississippi. The brown recluse is a very small spider and is in abundance at Yazoo Prison. Kimball has seen at least 100 of them and they are all over within Yazoo Prison and within the inmate housing units.

Although this spider does not appear to kill many people, it's bite if not attended to quickly, can cause serious sickness and leave a person permanently scarred.

Kimball met a federal inmate Jerry Steward, BOP #05680-043. According to Steward while he was in a deplorable jail, Stone County Regional Correctional Facility in Wiggins, Mississippi, he was bitten 9 times; being hospitalized one time after being bitten 3 times in one day by a brown recluse spiders. He was permanently disfigured as Kimball witnessed.

It took Goree a couple of days to discover he may have been bitten by a recluse as the bite area had become infected, appeared to be spreading was painful, and Goree was not feeling well.

Realizing what may have happened to him, Mr. Goree went immediately to his unit officer, Mr. Spann, and explained what had happened and showed him the infected area. Officer Spann immediately called Yazoo medical and sent Goree over.

Once at Yazoo medical Goree spoke to a PA and then to the head of Yazoo Medical, Health Services Administrator (HSA) Barbara Sullivan. Ms. Sullivan and other physician assistants (PAs) would do nothing to treat prisoner Goree, and told him to come back that evening to sick call.

Prisoner Goree went back to his housing unit for a few hours to wait for sick call to be announced over the housing unit's intercom.

At Yazoo prison, sick call is only at approximately 5:00 P.M. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday and a prisoner has only 5 minutes to leave his housing unit once the sick call announcement is made. However, at least 20% of the time NO announcement is made at all over the intercom. Prisoners must hang around the housing unit officer until he unlocks the door for only 5 minutes, then locks the door again.

Feeling sick and in pain, Goree lay down on his bunk and inadvertently fell asleep. When he awoke, the 5-minute allowance for inmates to go to sick call had gone by. Prisoner Goree could not go to sick call.

Goree was forced to wait yet another day with the serious pain and spreading infection. Goree did make sure he was up the next day, November 18, 2003 for the 5-minute allowance to leave his housing unit for sick call.

At sick call (which at Yazoo is operated the same as a person calling a medical clinic for an appointment) almost never diagnoses or treats any prisoners. Sick call only gives out appointments at Yazoo.

The PA making medical appointments November 18, 2003 refused to diagnose or treat Goree's poisonous infected bite; or give or recommend Goree something to kill the constant serious pain. The PA did give Goree an appointment to come back to Yazoo medical on November 20, 03.

By November 20, 03 when Goree went to medical for his appointment, the infected area had increased 3 or 4 fold what it was when Mr. Goree went to medical on an emergency, 3 days earlier and spoke to HSA Sullivan and other PA's.

On November 20, 03 when Mr. Goree was finally examined and diagnosed he was immediately taken out of Yazoo Prison for surgery and medication.

Mr. Goree suffered needless torture at the hands of BOP medical and is permanently scarred.

Kimball's note: There is "NO" excuse, nor can there be one, for not diagnosing or treating a seriously ill prisoner, when he is sent by BOP staff on emergency to any BOP medical clinic.

However, you will review on this site the fact the BOP medical facilities actually kills prisoners with their standard operating procedures that are commonplace throughout the United States.
